The hightrust.id digital wallet for citizens

As of October 29, 2024, the digital identity wallet can be used as a new identification method in parallel with bank identifiers and the mobile certificate.

A citizen who possesses an ID card issued by the police after August 31, 2021 with an integrated citizen certificate as well as a mobile phone (or a tablet with an NFC chip) can download the free hightrust.id mobile app on their mobile device from App Store or Google Play Store.

The ID card’s citizen certificate should first be activated using the activation code issued with the certificate. Then, you can download the ID card to the hightrust.id mobile app (digital wallet), which turns the hightrust.id digital wallet on your mobile device into a valid electronic identification token.

Linking the citizen certificate to the hightrust.id digital wallet enables two things when using government or municipal services or when communicating via the Suomi.fi service:

1) You can use the hightrust.id digital wallet for strong electronic identification at the highest possible level of assurance (LoA – High)

2) You can use the hightrust.id digital wallet for a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES) because the certificate is eIDAS-qualified and the creation device (citizen certificate) is a Qualified Signature Creation Device (QSCD) in accordance with eIDAS. This makes the signature legally binding and undisputed throughout the European Union, and its legal effect is the same as that of a handwritten signature (EU 910/2014, article 25).
