Preparing to enable the
hightrust.id digital wallet
- Take out your ID card with the citizen certificate with a chip and locate the CAN number in the center of the card that allows you to scan it.
- If you have not previously activated your citizen certificate, have the
activation PIN ready. The activation PIN was sent separately by the
Digital and Population Data Services Agency when you received your new
ID card.- Pay special attention to the fact that the card will be locked if the activation PIN is entered incorrectly too many times. (5 times for most cards.)
- If you need a new activation PIN, you can order one from the police for €23.
- The order cannot be placed online, but requires you to visit a police service point.
- The post office will send you a new activation PIN within 1-2 weeks.
- DVV will answer any questions you may have about the citizen certificate.
- Pre-create the identification numbers (number sequences) for the citizen certificate.
- The basic PIN code (PIN1) can be between 4 and 8 digits long.
- The signature PIN code (PIN2) can be 6-8 digits long.
- For security reasons, we recommend that you do not use the same set of numbers for PIN1 and PIN2.
- Please note the following:
- Only ID cards issued after 31 August 2021 can be virtualised in the Hightrust.id app.
- The QR code on the ID card is not scanned at any stage during the
activation process. - The hightrust.id app cannot be transferred to another phone without reinstalling it because the keys on the security element are not transferred to the new device. If the app is automatically transferred to the new phone, first uninstall it with its data and then download it again from the app store.
- If you change your Android locking policy (code, fingerprint, pattern or face) after deploying the hightrust app, the hightrust app will need to be uninstalled and re-downloaded from the app store.
- Foreigner cards do not work on iOS devices due to incompatibility between the certificate card and the iOS operating system. We are working with DVV and Apple to fix this.
The citizen certificate must be activated before it can be added to the hightrust.id app.

Using a mobile browser for authentication – other things to consider
- iOS: After authentication, switch back to your browser to access the authentication request page. If the page does not automatically redirect to the service, click on the “Upgrade now” link.
- Android Edge: When you click the Open button on the authentication request page, if a dialog box appears asking you whether to continue in the browser or open an external application, click “Remember your choice” and select “Open external application”. If the “Open” button on the authentication request page does not respond, you will need to clear the previous selection. In this case, in the bottom right corner of the browser, select menu -> settings -> privacy… -> block opening external applications. If you see id.hightrust or com.megical.easyaccess in the “Blocked sites” section, use the “Trash” button next to it to remove it.
