Potential digital wallet use cases

As the HTID mobile app works with services utilizing Suomi.fi identification, it enables the following:

  1. You can easily manage all your official business centrally via the suomi.fi portal on your mobile device using HTID.
  2. Unlike a mobile certificate or a bank identifier, for example, the HTID digital wallet is an electronic identification token that does not require you to be the customer of any commercial operator.
    1. The identification token is valid for the period of validity of your ID card or foreigner’s identity card.
    2. Using HTDI is absolutely secure and it does not enable bank scams as it is not connected to a bank.
    3. The holder of a foreigner’s identity card issued by the police can also obtain an electronic identification token for the HTID digital wallet on their smartphone.
    4. In other words, minors and others who are unable to open a bank account are able to obtain the electronic hightrust.id identification token and digital wallet.
  3. Finnish citizens and foreigners legally residing in Finland can use electronic services easily and securely on a mobile device.

Integration with the HTID service would enable, e.g., the following:

  1. The HTDI digital wallet’s capability to provide Qualified Electronic Signatures (QES)
    1. Legally binding and irrefutable within the EU, with the same legal effect as a handwritten signature. This is particularly useful for companies.
    2. This would enable you, for example, to acquire a property on a mobile device (https://www.maanmittauslaitos.fi/en).
  2. The digital wallet provides a security advantage after adding a government certificate.
    1. You could get all your personal digital documentation, certificates, and qualifications in your digital wallet.
    2. You could then share the certificates with third parties at your own discretion. There are no security issues when the certificates are not directly shared with third parties by the parties issuing the certificates, but they are independently managed and shared by the owner of the data, the citizen.
  3. High LoA electronic identification and Qualified Electronic Signatures enable you to easily and legally identify yourself via your email address. There is no need for the authorities or companies to maintain their own communications channels.
  4. Strong electronic identification and Qualified Electronic Signatures would also enable electronic voting with a mobile device.
